Myopia Management in cumbria

Short-sightedness (myopia) is a very common eye condition where you cannot see objects far away clearly. While there is no cure for myopia, there are a number of treatments that can slow its progression and even halt it completely in children and young teens.

At Eden Eyecare we are fully trained in Myopia Management, and we can work directly with each family to create treatment plans tailored to your child’s specific needs. Around 1 in 3 of us in the UK are affected by myopia, and this number is increasing year on year.

what causes myopia?

Myopia is a common condition in which objects close by appear clearly, but objects farther away are blurred. It occurs when the shape of the eye — or the shape of certain parts of the eye — causes light rays to bend inaccurately. This can be due to your eye being more ‘rugby ball’ shaped.

Myopia usually develops during childhood and adolescence, and it usually becomes more stable between the ages of 20 and 40, so it is best to try and manage the condition as soon as we can.

A basic eye examination can confirm myopia, and we can manage this effectively throughout your life.

your myopia assessment

 £80 | 30 – 45 minutes

Signs of myopia include a child struggling to see things at a distance, such as TV or whiteboard, where you may notice your child sitting up close to the TV, or asking to sit at the front of the class.

To assess for Myopia in practice, an eye examination will be carried out by our optometrist and if your child has a myopic prescription, a further consultation by an optician specialising in Myopia control will be recommended. Within this, we will go through your options including the innovative lens technology Miyosmart, discuss frame suitability and carry out specialised measurements.

We unfortunately cannot provide this service on the NHS, but please enquire for further details.

Which treatment is right for you? Don’t hesitate to contact us and discuss any questions you may have.
